Four Imperial College finalists, joined by a Plymouth University Student, travelled to the Tien Shan mountains in North West China, a remote area relatively inaccessible until the time of the expedition. They successfully carried out a major geological project - a structural traverse - in the area. The Group had the opportunity of observing and sharing the life of the Kazak community.
