The Haute Route Glaciere is a classic mountain route from the epicentre of mountaineering in Europe across the highest valleys of the Alps. The expedition in June 2024 planned to follow in the footsteps of early members of the Alpine Club who first pioneered the route in 1861. This version of the route, over six days covering 72km from Bourg-Saint-Pierre to Zermatt, was to follow the glaciers which lie high on the valleys and passes. This path posed a more technical, as well as a physical, challenge, and involved a total elevation gain of over 6,000km.
In addition to funding provided by the Exploration Board this expedition was supported by the Lord Mayor's 800th Anniversary Awards Trust, the Royal School of Mines Association Trust, the Old Centralians' Trust and the Royal College of Science Association Trust.
