Hampi and Badami are two UNESCO world heritage sites within Karnataka State, India. Hampi accounts for around 222 documented boulders out of potentially thousands of others, whilst Badami is India’s most frequented sport climbing destination owing to its world class climbing and fiery red sandstone rock. In addition, despite Badami having the potential for thousands of routes and boulders, there are only 129 established sport routes and less than 15 documented boulders.
From mid-December 2023 to early January 2024 the solo Imperial student travelled to the two areas, with the aim of accomplishing first ascents of boulders in grade ranges up to V6 (f7a), using a variety of styles whilst also developing their own of skills. Many first ascents were achieved and recorded in the two areas, as well as successful climbs on routes that had already been documented.
