Would you like to take your engagement ideas to the next level? Got a new idea, format or topic you would like to try out with public audiences? Wondering how to adapt your idea to a different audience or format?  

In this creative workshop, you will have the chance to develop new or existing ideas for public engagement activities. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and workshop facilitators with expertise in a range of engagement formats. You will actively participate in ideas-generation exercises, use your creativity and problem-solving skills, receive feedback on your ideas and guidance about the next steps in your planning.    

Key areas covered

This session will help you to think about your own engagement activity and how to further develop it. The following questions are indicative areas you will consider:  

  • What are you hoping to achieve through this activity?
  • Who is this activity for?
  • What are you hoping audiences will get out of participating in your activity?
  • What do you know about your target audience? What else do you need to know to better suit the needs and priorities of your target audience through this activity?
  • Is the format you have chosen suitable? How does it help you meet your aims? What resources do you have available?
  • How are you going to measure the success of your activity? What would you like to learn from those involved in it

Who is this session for?

This session is available to Imperial College staff members and doctoral students who have attended our Core Engagement Masterclass or similar training, or have equivalent experience in carrying out public engagement. 
 
You may also be interested in this session if you and your team:  

  • Are preparing an application for the Great Exhibition Road Festival or are working on an activity for our Lates programme.  
  • Have become a bit stuck with your idea, are unsure what to do with it next or how to make it happen.
  • Would like time and space to think creatively and innovatively about public engagement.

Learning Outcomes  

On completion of this session, you will be better able to:  

  • Plan engagement activities that meet your aims and objectives  
  • Recognise the range of approaches and activity formats in your public engagement  
  • Develop new ideas for engagement activities
  • Use your creativity and collaboration skills to develop and contribute to ideas for engagement
