The VALUED project is organised into five interlinked Work Packages (WPs), each led by an academic expert (Fig. 2).

As illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, systems integration is at the core of our agenda, driven by innovative, multidisciplinary science and engineering. These WPs represent the breadth of research needed to meet our objectives, fostering collaboration across different disciplines.

The non-linear WP structure features a parallel set of complementary activities that provide iterative feedback, ensuring continuous refinement of our approach. This innovation is building a strong foundation for creating reproducible and scalable chemicals/precursors, which will evolve into advanced materials derived from bio-waste. Throughout the process, we are optimising simultaneously for both performance and sustainability.

An interdigitated approach, weaving through our WPs, will progressively develop, test, challenge, and ultimately implement the most successful sustainable materials and architectural strategies across the most promising applications. This holistic approach is tailored to the multidisciplinary construct of the VALUED project, enabling rapid prioritisation of resources towards new discoveries and high-impact research threads.

Our structure allows coordinated, interdependent research agendas to drive toward long-term vision, ensuring that the most impactful and sustainable solutions are successfully developed and deployed.
