Postgraduate study naturally involves significant self-reflection. This valuable process helps you align your values, priorities, strengths, and interests with potential career paths. While your professional identity will continue evolving, the practical steps for landing your next role remain consistent.

At any point, these exercises are useful, but are critical for those midway through their MBA and seeking more immediate opportunities and change.

1. Know the market

AI Integration: Employers are increasingly seeking candidates who understand how AI can be leveraged within their industry. Highlight any relevant projects (academic or professional) demonstrating this knowledge.

Sustainability Focus: Companies across sectors are prioritizing sustainability initiatives. Experience or interest in ESG principles is a competitive advantage. Showcase this experience and if you haven’t yet got this, consider how can you build some.

Hybrid Work Models: Emphasize your adaptability, self-direction, and digital collaboration skills to cement your suitability for the role’s hybrid set up and the organisations culture of connection.

Project-Based Work: The rise of project-based roles means demonstrating your ability to deliver measurable outcomes in finite timeframes is increasingly valuable.

2. Maintain CV Readiness & Digital Presence Alignment:

Your CV (and LinkedIn)  should be ready at all times, not hastily updated when opportunities arise. Invest time now to create a solid foundation document that showcases your achievements and transferable skills. This allows you to quickly customize it for specific opportunities rather than starting from scratch. Ensure your CV clearly demonstrates the value you offer, with accomplishments quantified whenever possible!

Ensure your LinkedIn profile and other professional online presences reflect the same narrative as your CV, but with complementary details rather than identical content.

It can be easy to undersell ourselves, so do share this with your Career Consultant for a fresh viewpoint.

3. Activate Your Network

Your cohort and wider contacts are a powerful resource, but people will only know what you tell them. Clearly communicate what opportunities you're seeking and how you can provide value in return. Be specific about industries, roles, and companies that interest you to help others make meaningful connections on your behalf.

Remember that small, consistent actions in these areas will significantly improve your job search outcomes and position you effectively in today's competitive marketplace.
