Our MSc Strategic Marketing programme is a one-year programme that provides students with marketing fundamentals that intersect with the latest in technology and innovation.
Ruxi Helici, a MSc Strategic Marketing student, shares her motivations for studying the programme, her key takeaways from the first term, and what aspects she is looking forward to most in the second term.
About me
I received my bachelor's degree from Queen Mary University of London in 2021 and moved to Berlin shortly after, where I have been working in marketing for an international hotel chain. I have now returned to London after nearly two years to pursue the MSc Strategic Marketing programme at Imperial College Business School.
The MSc Strategic Marketing programme is remarkably well structured, offering not only a world-class learning experience, but also access to inspiring lecturers who are genuinely passionate about their chosen subjects.
Why I chose Imperial College Business School
Following multiple internships and work experience in the field of marketing, I discovered a hidden passion and interest for business that I wanted to deepen with a strong academic programme. After considerable research online, I discovered that Imperial College Business School’s MSc Strategic Marketing was one of the most prestigious and 3rd highest rated in Europe. I was also intrigued by the curriculum and hands-on approach to teaching with various group projects and case studies. Having previously completed a highly theoretical degree where the main form of assessment was essay writing, I was looking for a more practical programme that would allow me to learn by applying the concepts and knowledge attained from lectures to real-life business scenarios.
How the programme combines business and technology
What distinguishes Imperial from other business schools is its seamless integration of technology into the curriculum, ensuring contemporary business practices remain in perfect alignment with the latest marketing trends. The entire academic experience, from core readings to assignments and examinations, is digitised and offers students more convenience and flexibility. Technology is also strongly incorporated into the lectures, and students are encouraged to make the best use of technology when conducting research and writing assessments. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most recent examples, as students have been actively supported to incorporate AI into their learning experiences. Mastering the ability to use AI as a tool, as well as staying on top of other technological trends is a skill highly coveted in contemporary professional landscapes.
Studying MSc Strategic Marketing at Imperial College Business School:
Well-structured programme
The MSc Strategic Marketing programme is remarkably well structured, offering not only a world-class learning experience, but also access to inspiring lecturers who are genuinely passionate about their chosen subjects. As an individual without prior background in business, the concepts introduced as part of the programme have been incredibly insightful and consequently and has left me feeling enriched and eager to delve into the second term.
An inspiring cohort
I consider myself exceptionally fortunate to be part of such an inspiring cohort full of passionate and hardworking individuals. Their influence has not only heightened my aspirations but consistently compelled me to strive for greater goals and focus on personal growth.
Career events and alumni panels
Another aspect of my academic journey so far that has been particularly gratifying is the array of careers events and alumni panels organised for students. These initiatives have provided us with invaluable opportunities to engage with industry leaders and former students who have followed similar career paths. Their guidance, support, and insightful advice have proved immensely beneficial, providing a better and clearer understanding of their respective industries.
Cultivating leadership on the programme
Marketing is a field that evolves at an incredibly rapid pace, and the MSc Strategic Marketing programme offers a complete and unique approach to understanding business by encouraging students to think critically and focus on developing skills that could be applied to any future business scenario.
Quality of teaching aside, I strongly believe that empathy and learning to work well in groups are crucial skills the school is teaching its students to help them become successful future leaders. Considering that most assignments are group projects, students are constantly faced with the challenges of navigating the intricate dynamics arising from diverse cultural backgrounds and various studying and working methods. Subsequently, learning to manage cultural disparities and devising solutions together despite all challenges emerge as critical competency requisites for our success as future leaders one day. The chance to surround myself with likeminded individuals has motivated me to set more ambitious goals and propel myself towards accomplishments that previously seemed beyond reach.
The abundance of industry resources at our disposal, ranging from careers appointments and expert guidance to online databases and careers events, have played a pivotal role in facilitating my journey towards a future leadership role, providing essential support in shaping my career path.
What I am looking forward to most in the second term of the programme
I am looking forward to the new modules and electives this term, expanding my business knowledge, and making the most out of my remaining time at the Business School. I am also eager to be working with a new group of students during the second term, and finally meeting some classmates I have not crossed paths with yet.
Improving my career prospects is also on the agenda, as I am continuously discovering more facets of my professional identity, as well as the professional path that aligns most harmoniously with my skills and aspirations for the future.
