Imperial College Business School has won two prestigious industry awards for its climate change-related research and teaching.
The Business School’s Centre for Climate Finance and Investment and its Master’s in Climate Change, Management and Finance were recognised at the Finance for the Future Awards. These awards are run by the Institute for Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and champion the work of individuals and organisations from the finance and accounting community who are taking an active role in transforming the economy through sustainability practices that benefit the future health of the planet and society.
Imperial College Business School was one of four winners in the new Climate Leadership category, for providing innovative solutions to the climate crisis. According to the organisers, “Imperial’s leadership is clearly contributing towards a critical mass of multi-disciplinary, climate-informed finance professionals.”
The Business School was also named as the winner of the award for driving change through education, training and academia. The judges highlighted the way that Imperial “builds a compelling and distinct offering in the climate education of finance professionals. Its focus on mainstreaming and accessibility across the business school, and to professionals outside the education space, demonstrates a dynamic approach to an urgent issue.”
Dr Mirabelle Muûls, Academic Director of the MSc Climate Change, Management and Finance said the success of this one-year degree was largely due to the inter-disciplinary nature of the course which involves collaboration between the Business School and the Grantham Institute -Climate Change and the Environment. She said: “It’s important that students are being taught by world leading experts and gaining the necessary business skills and a multi-disciplinary understanding of climate change and finance.”

The Centre for Climate Finance and Investment aims to generate better understanding of the investment opportunities surrounding areas such as renewable energy, clean technologies and climate-resilient infrastructure through collaboration between academics and practitioners. A key part of its mission is to unlock solutions within capital markets to address the challenges posed by climate change.

These prestigious awards demonstrate the constructive role that business schools can play though evidence-based research, innovative teaching, and engagement with leaders in the financial services industry.”
