Applying for the Weekend MBA

What we look for in a Weekend MBA candidate

You need to be prepared to balance your ambitions with an existing career, demonstrating leadership potential, an ability to leverage your networks and a track-record of driving innovation and collaboration.

Entry requirements
Imperial Weekend MBA students have on average seven years of work experience when joining the class. You will need a minimum of three years of continuous relevant full-time work experience after graduation to apply for the programme.
When assessing your application, we will look at your career progression through roles and responsibilities, and managing projects and people to ensure that you can contribute and engage in the classroom and share your experiences with your peers.
You will need at least a UK Second Class Honours or the international equivalent, or an acceptable professional qualification:

Full membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in the UK or Ireland (ICAEW, ICAS or Chartered Accountants Ireland)

Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting (CIPFA)

Associateship or Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

Full membership of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
All home, EU, and overseas applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Students who were not awarded their degree in a qualifying English-speaking country must demonstrate their proficiency by completing an approved English language qualification at the required level. Minimum test requirements for the most popular tests are:

IELTS (academic): A minimum score of 7.0 with minimum scores of 6.5 in all elements

TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 100 overall with minimum scores of 22 in all elements

Duolingo English Test: 125 Overall with no less than 115 in any band score

Essays are a vital part of your application. The questions for the Weekend MBA programme are:
1. How do you expect the MBA programme to impact your career in both the short term and long term? Please detail your immediate career goals (including the company or sector) upon graduation and your broader aspirations for the future, explaining how the skills, network, and experiences gained from the MBA programme will help you achieve these objectives. (500 words)
2. Why do you want to study at Imperial College Business School and how will you contribute to our community? (500 words)
3. Imperial’s values are Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation, and Excellence. Describe a time where you embodied one, or more, of these values and explain the impact it had. (500 words)

Start your application
- Visit the application portal and create an account by completing your personal details.
- Select Spring 2025-26 academic term for the January 2026 intake.
Submit your supporting documents
- Current resume/CV: you can view a CV template here for guidance
- Personal statement (see blog for tips on how to write a personal statement)
- Complete degree transcripts with English translation if necessary (view international entry requirements)
- Contact details of two professional referees including their company/business email address. We recommend that one should be your current line manager
- Essay questions

Complete your application
Once you have submitted your supporting documents you can complete your application with the £150 application processing fee. Please note referees will receive a notification upon application submission to provide a reference for the candidate.
Interview and admissions decision
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 30-minute online interview to take place during the scheduled interview weeks for the round in which you have applied. This is the best opportunity for you to demonstrate your passion and drive, and why you want to study -the Imperial Weekend MBA.
- Application decisions will be communicated by the corresponding decision date for the round in which you applied.

- If admitted to the programme, you will be invited to the MBA Admit Weekend in London.

We operate a staged admissions process with several deadlines throughout the year. This programme is highly competitive, so early application is advised, and will also put you ahead of the game to be considered for a scholarship.

Candidates should submit their application by 23.59 UK time on the day of the application deadline. Successful candidates will be notified by 17.00 UK time on the decision date.

Frequently asked questions
To be eligible to apply for the programme, you would normally require:
- Seven years’ relevant postgraduate work experience. In exceptional circumstances, we will consider candidates with a minimum of three years of continuous relevant full-time work experience
- You will need at least a UK Second Class Honours or international equivalent or an acceptable professional qualification
- English language test results (if applicable).

At Imperial, we work with admissions rounds. By submitting your application into an admissions round, you will be able to plan around the next steps in the process and see the timeline for decisions to be made. If you wish to be considered, please follow the dates listed on the key dates and deadlines page.
Please email the Weekend MBA Recruitment & Admissions team if you would like to request feedback on your application. Please note that only limited feedback can be provided. The decision of the academic selectors is final. Your application cannot be reconsidered.
GMAT / GRE is not required for admission to this programme.
However, if you have if you have already sat or intend to take GMAT (old or new test) or GRE, you are welcome to submit your results. A good score overall can add weight to your application – particularly if you feel that your degree performance does not reflect your academic potential.
To submit a GMAT score, you must request for it to be sent to Imperial College Business School using the code S22-7S-16.
GMAT Exam scores will remain valid for five years from your appointment date.
You will be able to take the old exam up until 31 January 2024.
A student visa is not required for this MBA programme. International students from outside the EU or EEA will need a short-term study visa for on-campus periods.
