Meet David Nabarro
Professor Sir David Nabarro, co-director of the Institute for Global Health Innovation, is also actively involved in the teaching and delivery of some of the IGHI’s postgraduate programmes. In his role as the Module Lead for the MSc in Health Policy’s fourth module, ‘Health & Society’, Professor Nabarro takes part in discussions to shape the content and format of the module, leveraging his extensive knowledge of global public health and health systems to ensure that the module’s content is up-to-date and relevant for students aiming to work in health policy. Furthermore, Professor Nabarro takes a keen interest in the student’s work on the module, reviewing coursework and providing additional feedback.
Professor Nabarro’s most visible contributions are the two lectures he delivers as part of the module. Drawing on his vast professional and personal experience of working in health and food policy across sectors and at multiple levels, Professor Nabarro’s lectures cover a breadth of essential global health policy topics, including the challenges of informing and implementing health policy, and the importance of systems thinking in public health. Professor Nabarro’s teaching also emphasises the importance of discussion, collaboration, understanding, and negotiation as tools when working with a variety of stakeholders and across different systems and sectors, in order to achieve effective and sustainable results when tackling public health challenges. Professor Nabarro’s sessions are always very popular with students, and he greatly enjoys the chance to engage in discussion both during his lectures and more broadly as part of his teaching on the module.
