Tracking Embodied Human-Computer Interactions with E-Textiles Integrated into Loose-Fitting Garments

Abstract
E-textiles can successfully track the body through stretch-sensing fabrics placed across joints in order to support applications in areas including health and entertainment. However, these types of sensors require being worn tightly against the body and are sensitive to how well the garment fits the wearer. There has been some limited research into exploring how alternative sensing mechanisms to stretch and this project would extend that work to establish the technical and design possibilities of loose-fitting garments for body movement tracking. A combination of methodologies would be used including textile sensor design, signal processing and data interpretation, and user studies.
