Submitting your offer conditions

The Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) was introduced on 1 November 2007 by the UK government.

Under this scheme, all non-EEA students (excluding nationals from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the USA) who need a visa to study in the UK on certain programmes within specific subject areas will be required to apply for ATAS clearance before joining the programme, or, in the case of students requiring a General student visa, applying for their visa.

As of 6th April 2015, if you are applying for a programme that does need ATAS clearance, you will need to apply for this even if you are entering the UK on another controlled immigration visa.

As part of your offer conditions, you will have been asked to provide the College with proof of your academic qualifications.

Applicants will receive instructions on how to verify their academic credentials within their offer conditions. Applicants should refer to their offer letter or Imperial Gateway (applicant portal) for the relevant details.

Where degrees are awarded by universities which have secure e-transcript sharing verification services, this service should be used and the transcript shared with the relevant Admissions team's email address. Otherwise, the Qualification Check Verification service must be used. Offer holders will receive a unique URL to access the Qualification Check Verification Service in their offer conditions.

If you have been asked to demonstrate your English language proficiency we may be able to verify your test results online if you have taken an IELTS, Pearson, TOEFL or Cambridge Advanced/Proficiency tests:

• For IELTS, you can provide your Test Report Form Number or a scanned copy of your certificate to the relevant admissions team.
• For Pearson, ensure you have sent your scores to Imperial via your PearsonPTE account
• For TOEFL, you can send your 16 digit registration number or a scanned copy of your certificate. Please ensure that you quote your CID number in any email correspondence with the admissions team.
• For Cambridge Advanced and Proficiency Tests, email your certificate to the admissions team.
• If you have completed another one of Imperial’s accepted English language qualifications, please email a copy to the appropriate admissions team.

Please note that as a Tier 4 Sponsor, Imperial College is able to make its own assessment of students’ English language ability. Note for research (PhD) applicants

After fulfilling the English language entry requirement for admission, all doctoral students must also fulfil the Imperial College London Doctoral Academic Communication Requirement (DACR). This is done through taking Doctoral Academic Communication Requirement Assessment 1 (DACR A1). Depending on the result of this initial assessment (DACR A1), students may also need to have a progress check, referred to as Doctoral Academic Communication Requirement Assessment 2 (DACR A2). DACR A2 will form part of the Early Stage Assessment (ESA), which is carried out by the student’s host department. 

To fulfil the Requirement, students must take the first available DACR A1 after registering onto their doctoral programme. This must be within 3 months of the registration date. This is because the aim of the Requirement is to identify as soon as possible those who may need to improve their writing competence, and to ensure they can access support in the first 9 months of their doctoral programme.
