Mitigating Online Harms in Adolescence: Developing Technology in Support of Resilience to Safeguard Young People’s Digital Wellbeing
Abstract
Children and young people are subjected to a variety of online harms daily, including cyberbullying, misinformation, and inappropriate content, which pose risks for their mental health. This project will explore innovative ways to reduce exposure to online harms by combining insights from psychology, computer science, and digital policy to develop technology that empowers young users to navigate online spaces safely. Through AI-driven content monitoring, real-time user feedback, and resilience training, this project seeks to promote a safer online environment for adolescents while fostering digital literacy and emotional resilience.
