Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an important role in accelerating traditional approaches in materials science and engineering from the discovery of novel compounds to advanced characterisation techniques. New types of research activity are also being enabled by harnessing the power of large materials datasets with predictive machine-learning models.
Research in this theme is naturally multi-disciplinary and involves aspects of data science with making, measuring and modelling materials.
Our research explores:
- Automation and robotics
- High-throughput virtual and computational screening
- Multi-modal data analysis from 1D spectroscopy to 3D tomography
- Advanced microstructural analysis
- Design and discovery of new materials
