Research Activities
Railways research in the Department is focussed on the Future Railway Research Centre (FRRC), which conducts technical railway related research in four broad areas: vehicle-track interaction, sustainable energy systems, vehicle design and materials integrity, particularly the fatigue of vehicles and infrastructure. The FRRC has three aims:
- To provide leading edge research to improve the knowledge and technical capabilities of the railway sector.
- To facilitate the UK's ability to migrate to the most energy-efficient, safe, high-speed, and cost-effective railway network.
- To provide a supply of high level technically trained staff of the railway industry world-wide.
