Course Overview

This course in Korean is for anyone who would like to begin the journey to speak and understand Korean, and is aimed at those with no previous experience of Korean.

On this course you will be given a comprehensive introduction to basic Korean communication skills, ideal for those planning a short trip to Korea, and those wanting to progress to further study in the language.

Alongside the Korean language you will also learn about Korean culture, looking at typical customs and aspects of Korean culture and history. By the end of the course, you should be able to understand basic oral and written communication in Korean for use in everyday situations.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be better prepared to:

  • read and write the Korean alphabet (Hangul) and have knowledge of the basics of Korean grammar
  • understand the basic principles of Korean sentence structure;
  • form sentences in simple tenses
  • identify aspects of informal and formal speech forms..

Teaching and Learning Approach

The teaching and learning approach for this course combines tutor-led instruction, group activities, and independent study supported by individual guidance from the tutor. Classes are conducted face-to-face in a classroom setting and utilise diverse teaching methods, including presentations, multimedia resources, class discussions, and interactive activities. These methods are selected to engage students, accommodate varied learning styles, and support effective understanding. The approach is also designed to recognise and be responsive to the diverse experiences, backgrounds, identities, and cultural perspectives represented within the student cohort, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
