Course Overview

This 20-week entry-level course, taught over two terms, is designed for individuals interested in learning the acoustic guitar. Participants will develop foundational skills in tuning, strumming, picking techniques, and playing simple chords for popular songs. The course encompasses various styles, including pop, rock, blues, and folk music.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be better prepared to:

  • Tune an acoustic guitar, play common open chords, and use a range of strumming and fingerpicking techniques.
  • Recognise and perform basic chord progressions and simple songs across popular styles including pop, rock, blues and folk.
  • Understand and apply introductory concepts in music theory, rhythm, and songwriting, and gain confidence playing solo and with others.

Teaching and Learning Approach

The teaching and learning approach for this course combines tutor-led instruction, group activities, and independent study supported by individual guidance from the tutor. Classes are conducted face-to-face in a classroom setting and utilise diverse teaching methods, including presentations, multimedia resources, class discussions, and interactive activities.
