This four-day residential Summer School for Year 12 students is fully funded by The Sutton Trust and Imperial College London.

In 2017, Imperial College will host two Sutton Trust Summer Schools, when you apply you will be asked to select one of the weeks:

WEEK 1: 1st – 4th August 2017

Subjects Include

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Biological Sciences 

OR

WEEK 2:  8th – 11th August 2017

Subjects Include

  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Physics 
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Bioengineering 

Students should apply via the Sutton Trust (applications open January 2017) and will be required to choose the strand and dates they are applying for at that time.

Course Aims

  • To raise attainment in Science and Maths A Levels
  • To introduce students to University Campus life and facilities
  • To provide information and guidance relating to student finance, life skills and applying to University
  • To raise aspirations and motivate students towards studying STEM subjects at University and pursuing a STEM career

Pre-requisites

This course is for students who are highly motivated in studying science, high achievers in top 10% of ability range and typically achieving A* to B across their studies. Applications will be judged with regards to the following criteria:

  • First generation in family to attend university
  • Achieved at least 5 A/A* at GCSE or 5 credit passes at standard grade or equivalent
  • Studying A Level maths and the strand subject they are applying for
  • Attend schools or colleges with a low overall A-level/Higher/Advanced Higher (or equivalent) point score and/or schools or colleges with low progression rates to higher education
  • Come from neighbourhoods with low overall progression rates into higher education or high levels of socio economic deprivation
  • Are (or have been) looked after, accommodated or in care
  • Under 18 years of age at time of summer school
  • In Year 12 of S5 in Scotland (or equivalent)
  • Are a home UK student
  • Do not attend a private/independent (fee paying) school – this includes those awarded bursaries
