A week of guided prayer is an opportunity to develop your prayer life – whatever form it currently takes.  Perhaps you want to pray but aren’t sure how, or you try to pray but don’t feel like you’re getting anywhere.  Perhaps your prayer life feels stuck somehow and you want to move it on.  Perhaps you have a good routine of prayer which nurtures you, but you want to take it deeper.  Wherever you are at the moment, a week of guided prayer can breathe new life into your prayer.

The week of guided prayer is for Christians of all denominations. If you’re not Christian but would like similar guidance on your spiritual life, please don’t hesitate to contact the one of our faith advisors that would be relevant for you.

To book a place, fill in the booking form and send it to chaplaincy@imperial.ac.uk before Friday 18th November.

FURTHER DETAILS

What will happen during the week?

On Tuesday 22nd November, there will be an early evening opening session, where everyone taking part will come together.  We will pray together to start the week.  You will be able to meet your prayer guide and check the details of practicalities such as the time and place you will be meeting.

During the week, you should set aside time for prayer every day.  You will meet with your prayer guide in the Chaplaincy Centre every weekday from Wednesday to Tuesday at the same time each day.

On Wednesday 30th November the whole group will come together again, to close the week by praying together.

What happens at the meetings with the prayer guides?

These meetings will last around half an hour, and you can talk about what you have experienced, and the prayer guide will give you some suggestions for your next time of prayer.  The meetings are not a time to pray together, rather, a time to reflect together on your personal prayer.

Who are the prayer guides?

All our prayer guides are trained Spiritual Directors who have a lot of experience in listening and talking to people about their spirituality.

What if I can’t make it to one of the meetings?

When you book a place you will be able to indicate when you are free to meet with the prayer guide.  You may be able to make different arrangements in advance for one or two days with your prayer guide.  The idea of the Week of Guided Prayer is that it fits in with your usual routine, so we will try and be flexible whenever possible.

Do I need to book a place?

Yes.  Because of the logistics of organising meetings for each participant with a limited number of rooms and prayer guides, we need to know if you’d like to take part as soon as possible.  Please email to chaplaincy@imperial.ac.uk
