The Annual EDF Lecture celebrates the ongoing collaboration between EDF and Imperial College London on research, education and training in nuclear engineering and other disciplines related to the generation and distribution of electricity.

Abstract

This first EDF Annual Lecture will examine different sources of electricity generation and their respective merits, and will position nuclear energy as a key contributor to the energy mix according
to the needs of different countries. An overview will be given of EDF’s achievements and perspectives in nuclear programmes in France and abroad, in order to face the challenges of low carbon
electricity production. Although regulation of nuclear activities remains a national state responsibility, nuclear energy has become increasingly international as it develops worldwide. International harmonisation is a major challenge ahead of us in a global market with a limited number of major
players. In order to face these challenges, human resources are also key, and EDF continues to launch various initiatives to recruit and train the talents that will be the group’s best asset for future success.
