Imperial College’s BAME staff network, Imperial As One, invites you to listen to Judy Griffith as she shares her personal Windrush story with award-winning journalist and author of “The Windrush Betrayal” Amelia Gentleman.

 

Judy Griffith, came to Britain as a child in 1963 from Barbados. She is one of many of the Windrush generation who have had their status as British citizens questioned, despite having indefinite leave to remain as a Commonwealth citizen. (See British Library Windrush Stories)

Amelia Gentleman is a reporter for the Guardian. For the past two and a half years she has been writing about the Home Office and the mistaken classification of thousands of legal residents as illegal immigrants. She was named journalist of the year 2019 for her work uncovering the Windrush scandal and she also won the Paul Foot award, the Cudlipp award and the Amnesty impact prize for the investigation. Her book ‘The Windrush Betrayal: Exposing the Hostile Environment’ is published by Guardian Faber, and has been shortlisted for the Orwell prize. Previously she was Delhi correspondent for the International Herald Tribune, and Paris and Moscow correspondent for the Guardian
