Dear all,

Please join us for our next CPE Sustainable Energy Materials seminar on Thursday the 11th of March at 3 pm:

Hypercrosslinked polymers as a photocatalytic platform for CO2 photoreduction using H2O

by Giulia Schukraft

PhD student, Petit group, Department of Chemical Engineering

Talk abstract: The ever-increasing global energy demand requires a significant overhaul of current production processes if humanity is to address climate change. A significant research effort is focused on identifying new methods to harness renewable energy. Solar fuels could go a long way towards a sustainable economy once efficient routes towards solar fuel production have been identified. Solar fuel conversion can be achieved by a variety of processes, amongst which photocatalysis is particularly attractive because of the simplicity of its implementation.

In this talk, I will present hypercrosslinked polymer (HCP) photocatalysts as a new photocatalytic platform for selective reduction of CO2 to CO using water vapour. HCPs are stable nanoporous organic materials synthesised based on Friedel–Crafts chemistry using low cost precursors. I will initially address the current challenges that semiconductors are facing, and the progress made in the field to develop new classes of photoactive materials. The talk will then focus on the HCP’s physiochemical properties and their CO2 photoreduction capability. Finally, I will talk about our latest research on HCPs.

About the SustEM seminar series: The SustEM seminars feature talks by senior Ph.D. students, postdocs, and early-career research fellows. We would like to invite speakers working on sustainable energy materials not only within the CPE, but also from other relevant groups across the College. Please spread the word to groups working on sustainable energy materials and let us know if you are interested in giving a talk!

We have started a new distribution list for notifications of upcoming CPE seminars. If you know of anyone not receiving these emails, please send their details to: processable-electronics@imperial.ac.uk and they’ll be added to the list.

Best regards,

SustEM organising committee
