Abstract: Talk summarises main developments in UK wave and tidal energy focused on the work of the European Marine Energy Centre on Orkney. The presentation covers the types of devices, briefly reviews current status of marine energy including R&D projects, developments with hydrogen and outlines progress on marine energy standards with the IEC.
Brief Bio: A chemical engineer (Imperial 63-66) by training he has extensive experience over the past 54 years of marine renewable energy, offshore and onshore oil/gas processing facilities and waste-to-energy ranging from economics and concept development and process design/co-ordination, through project execution to operations and maintenance. Experience includes Healthcare General Management (2 years); Non Exec Director for 13 years; Executive Director in major contractor- 5 years.
20 years in the Gas industry included gas manufacture, Natural Gas Grid operations, Development Engineering, development of Morecambe Bay gas and Rough Storage Fields. 11 years in oil & gas contracting with Matthew Hall, AMEC and Bechtel. Moved into renewable energy in 1999and was technical developer of European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) as well as running own marine energy consultancy company. Technical Director of EMEC then 3 years as an Associate working on overseas projects and hydrogen developments. Currently executing a short assignment with Lloyds Register.
