Alumni standing together at a recent event in Accra

African cities are growing rapidly due to huge demographic shifts, and are vibrant centres of commerce, education, investment and innovation, as people migrate from rural to urban locations in search of work and better opportunities. Yet these cities can often be vulnerable to the climate risks such as flooding, heat waves and mudslides.

How will climate change impact Accra? What will the impact be on those who are vulnerable to climate change risks? How can research and policy come together to affect positive sustainable change?

Explore these questions us at our upcoming alumni and friends reception hosted by President of Imperial, Professor Hugh Brady.

Joining President Brady will beProfessor Majid Ezzati, Chair in Global Environmental Health. During Professor Ezzati’s visit to Ghana, he will be launching a new programme, CLARITY (Climate Change Resilient Equitable Healthy Cities in Africa). In partnership with policy and societal partners, the programme will explore how climate change affects environmental risk exposures, and who are vulnerable to these risks.

To mark the launch of this important initiative, Professor Ezzati will chair an insightful panel discussion with colleaguesNkechi S. Owoo, Associate Professor, Department of Economics at the University of Ghana,Wilfred Ndifon, Chief Scientific Officer & Centre President, AIMS Research & Innovation, and Solomon Asamoah, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), to discuss the impact of climate change on African cities.

Professor Hugh Brady is delighted to be visiting Accra to meet the local alumni community for the first time. He will share news and updates from Imperial, including our ambitious new strategy:Science for Humanity. We invite you to join us for a fascinating evening, reconnect with old friends and spark new connections over drinks and light bites.
