Professor Mark Walker, Professorial Research Fellow & Group Leader, Institute for Molecular Bioscience, The University of Queensland, will present a seminar on ‘Preclinical assessment of a non-M protein group A streptococcal vaccine’.
Prof. Walker’s research focuses on the mechanism by which the group A streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes) causes invasive diseases, as well as the development of a vaccine. He obtained his PhD in Microbiology in Queensland in 1987 before undertaking post-doctoral positions in the National Research Centre for Biotechnology, Braunschweig, Germany and the School of Biological Sciences, University of Wollongong. He has held both Alexander Von Humboldt (1998) and a Fulbright Senior Scholar (2005) fellowships. Since returning to Queensland in 2010 he has been a group leader in the Institute for Molecular Bioscience.
