This event is part of the Friday Forums, a series of events consisting of a panel followed by an audience discussion. It is a rule of the Forum that half of the time is given over to audience discussion. Do come along expecting to be involved in lively discussion and debate. All Friday Forums are free with lunch provided and are open to all Imperial members.
Imperial College London, with its origins linked to Prince Albert’s Great Exhibition of 1851, and its flourishing programme of outreach and public engagement initiatives, is known for its outward-facing identity. But given the way science is as often contested as it is celebrated, how should Imperial make good on its new strapline ‘Science for Humanity’? How can scientific research have an ear for public concerns? How can we best involve members of the public in our research? And how easy is it to project the scientific project into society, so that research itself becomes a civic activity?
Join our fourth Friday Forum to discuss these issues with expert panellists and with colleagues thinking about these issues.
Panellists:
Clare Matterson CBE, Director General of the Royal Horticultural Society and founder of Wellcome Collection.
Katherine Mattieson, Director of the Royal Institution.
