Colourful painting of abstract shapes

This event is part of the Friday Forums, a series of events consisting of a panel followed by an audience discussion. It is a rule of the Forum that half of the time is given over to audience discussion. Do come along expecting to be involved in lively discussion and debate. All Friday Forums are free with lunch provided and are open to all Imperial members.

From the 17th century on the relation between the natural, and the social sciences, has been disputed. Today, with scientific impact and societal involvement in innovation a priority, the role of social scientists in the advancement of science has never been clearer. But how easy is it for social scientists and natural scientists and engineers to work together? What are their differences, in term of methodology and aims? And with Imperial’s new strapline ‘Science for Humanity’, how best can we support the social scientists in our midst?

This Friday Forum is followed straight after by a workshop on the same issues, where we will hear more in-depth discussion from colleagues in the social sciences, detailing in particular their research projects at Imperial, and their experience of ‘the STEM connection’. This workshop will take place in the Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication, one of Imperial’s ‘homes’ for the arts, the humanities and the social sciences.
