Six Energy Policies to Save the Planet offers a deep insight into the complex and wide-ranging issues of energy policy that underly the global climate effort. It takes stock of the situation today, reviews the potential of available technologies, and examines the interlocking roles of business, public opinion, and government. It considers the geopolitics of climate change, in particular the relations between rich and poor countries and between China and the West. It outlines the perspectives of key decision makers, especially those in the developing world. The final chapter proposes reforms to the architecture of international energy governance.

About the author
Neil A.C. Hirst has exceptionally wide experience of international energy policy. He held a series of senior positions working for the UK government in this area. He is a former Director at the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Energy Counsellor at the British Embassy in Washington. He has chaired the G8 Nuclear Safety Working Group. He was seconded to Goldman Sachs in New York to worked on energy finance. He worked with China’s Energy Research Institute on China’s in international energy governance. Most recently he headed the IEA’s energy policy mission to Mozambique.
Before writing Six Energy Policies to Save the Planet, he published The Energy Conundrum: Climate Change Global Prosperity and the Tough Decisions We Have to Make, also with World Scientific. He is the joint author, with Prof. Yufeng Yang, of Global Energy Governance Reform and China’s Participation, published by Tsinghua University Press. Neil Hirst has a first-class degree from Oxford in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and an MBA from Cornell. He is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the Grantham Institute, Imperial College London.
