The Centre is hosting a series of bootcamps in partnership with the Imperial Policy Forum to inform Civil Servants seeking expert advice on enhancing the competitiveness of the UK economy across various sectors. Working in collaboration with businesses, we carry out rigorous research and translate this into strategies to bolster both firm-level and national competitiveness.
The government has proposed a new industrial strategy which it says will help to deliver high-tech industries, boost lagging regions and support UK companies to be global champions in growth sectors. And it plans to establish a new Industrial Strategy Council to ensure the kind of long-term commitment to the agenda that has too often been missing. Our bootcamps provide a unique opportunity to deepen expertise in the key sectors shaping the industrial strategy. Participants will gain access to Imperial/industry experts and the latest in-depth research from our investigations, along with suggested policy recommendations.
HealthTech bootcamp
HealthTech is a hidden gem of the UK economy. It contributes £13B GVA (equal to BioPharma) thanks to the UK’s strengths in medical innovation. But its potential remains barely tapped. Robust growth in HealthTech is currently limited by shortages in capital and skills. It also has a too
-distant relationship with the NHS, which should be its biggest partner in clinical trials and the adoption of new technologies that improve healthcare cost-effectiveness. Fixing these problems will add to the nation’s economic growth and help ensure that the NHS delivers better health and wellbeing to everyone in the UK.
CSEP academics have been working in partnership with the Association of British HealthTech Industries, who represent the HealthTech industry to key stakeholders, such as governments, healthcare systems and regulators. In Autumn, CSEP and ABHI will publish a sector strategy to transform the economic and societal benefits of UK HealthTech presenting concrete short, medium and long-term policy measures for the new government.
During this bootcamp, academic and industry experts will present a comprehensive overview of the HealthTech sector in the UK, highlighting key barriers (including funding, regulation and procurement) and presenting opportunities for government to uncover its economic potential moving forward. The bootcamp will be a full-day in-person session, with lunch and refreshments provided. The day will involve presentations from CSEP co-directors, academic, and industry leaders followed by interactive workshops tailored to participants roles and objectives for the session. The bootcamps are intended to support participants with advice and guidance on their current policy priorities within their departments.
