Join us in our continuing journey, following a previous opus 1 event at Imperial College, for an evening of musical improvisation, neuroscience of shared experience and consciousness, and delve into what the joint performance of improvisation can show us about what it means to be human.
The evening is not just a concert but an interactive experience. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in active listening, witness mind-reading, and explore the themes of trust and joint risk-taking. The event will also include a conversation between audience members, the musicians, and the round-table panel.
Music
The musical experience will consist of various classical pieces improvised together by Professor Adrian Brendel (cello) and Professor David Dolan (piano). The performers will play in response to their emotions and the current state of mind, also accepting initial inputs from the audience.
Analysis
The analysis of the neural activity of the performers will be outlined by Professor Henrik Jeldtoft Jensen and PhD candidate Alberto Liardi. The research focuses on how the concepts of collective intelligence and shared experience can be seen quantitatively from brain signals.
Panel discussion
Do you have any questions? Do you want to know more about shared experiences and improvisation? Feel free to indulge your curiosity and participate in the conversation with our panel committee, consisting of Professors Adrian Brendel, David Dolan, and Henrik Jeldtoft Jensen.
