Seminar speaker
Dr Laura Warwick – Research Fellow ESA FORUM
It’s a pleasure to be invited back to Imperial only a short time after completing my PhD to talk about measurements of far-infrared surface emissivity! I am now a Research Fellow at the European Space Agency working in support of the Far-infrared Outgoing Radiation Understanding and Monitoring (FORUM) mission. In this seminar I will explain why good knowledge of the emissivity of the Earth’s surface in the far-infrared is vital for our understanding of the current and future climate. I will describe measurements that have been made using Imperial’s FINESSE instrument including data from my PhD and a field campaign in Northern Norway. I will compare the results to modelling and finally I will talk about what is next for the emissivity measurements.
