The CRUK Convergence Science Centre is a partnership between Imperial College London and The Institute of Cancer Research. In collaboration with our international partners we arrange a monthly international seminar ‘Converging on Cancer’ on the topic of interdisciplinary cancer research. Our partners are:
- Technical University of Munich (TUM)
- Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
- Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC – University of Copenhagen)
- École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
On the first Thursday of each month, we bring together speakers from across these institutions to present their research and how they use convergence science to answer cancer-related questions.
This session will be chaired by Prof Charlotte Bevan from Imperial.
Speakers
Prof Wouter Karthaus (EPFL): Targeting lineage plasticity in prostate cancer
Drug resistance mediated by cancer cell plasticity poses a major clinical problem. Lineage plasticity i.e., differentiation to a cellular phenotype independent of the drug target is a major mechanism of resistance to therapies targeting the androgen receptor signalling axis in prostate cancer. In my talk I will discuss recent advances in our understanding of lineage plasticity using organoid technologies.
Prof Wolfgang Weber (TUM): New developments in theranostics
Prof Weber specialises in the field of molecular imaging and targeted radionuclide therapy. His research focus is the combination of imaging and therapy of cancer (theranostics).
