The discussion will focus on exploring innovative approaches and collaborative solutions for building equitable and sustainable health systems worldwide. It will also be an opportunity to discuss policy engagement strategies to emphasise how effective policy-making and implementation can accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.
Professor Charles Gilks is an Emeritus Professor of Global Health at the University of Queensland. He is an international public health specialist and clinical academic with over four decades of experience in global health, particularly in HIV/AIDS research and public health policy. A graduate of the University of Oxford, Prof. Gilks has made significant contributions to HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, especially in resource-limited settings. His career includes roles at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the World Health Organization, and UNAIDS. He has published over 300 journal articles and has recently co-authored “A WHO public health approach to ending AIDS in the global south: lessons for NCD control and universal health coverage”.
There will be an opportunity for Q&A and networking towards the end of the session. The session will be chaired by Professor Jonathan Weber and Professor Sarah Fidler.
Lunch will be provided. We will try to cater for all (vegan/vegetarian options) but if you have any specific dietary requirements, please let us know.
