Overview

Positive, inclusive, and healthy research environments are crucial for fostering research innovation and progress. In recognition, the forthcoming REF exercise in the UK will emphasise people, culture and environment in assessing research excellence. In response, organisations and research leaders now need to reflect on their existing practices and consider how to develop positive research environments for current and future generations of researchers.

In this interactive session, using insights gained from over a decade of supporting and evaluating organisational research environments across the UK, we explore the key factors that underpin positive research cultures and environments.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Reflect on practices in your own workplace.
  • Share ideas and experiences with other participants.
  • Consider practical actions to enhance the research environments for your own groups and work areas

By the end of this workshop, participants will have:

  • Insights into key factors that support positive research environments.
  • Actively reflected on the research culture and environment for their own area of work/responsibility.
  • Developed a practical action plan for enhancing their own research environments.
  • Exchanged experiences and ideas with other colleagues in a supportive environment.
