In the first three workshops you heard about: 1. inspiring success stories and how to get funding for them, 2. what the dept can do for you, 3. what college can do for you. The spring programme will cover some of the basics for actually getting on with a spinout.

As part of its decentralised, hands-on spinout support, ChemEng Enterprise launched in 2024 a new Spinout Workshop Series. This event is largely open to the Department of Engineering’s staff and postgraduate community looking for spinout inspiration.
The workshops are intended for ChemEng academics and researchers who are in the process of launching, preparing or thinking about a spinout from their IP intensive research.
Each workshop covers a detailed aspect of the process from a very practical viewpoint, addressing the “what, how, who, and when” of actually doing it. The goal is to provide a forum for exchanging knowledge and experiences between our aspiring entrepreneurs, external experts, industry players, and some of our start-uppers who have been through the ropes.
It is expected that participants will gain an improved awareness of key issues and mechanisms, and useful contacts.
All workshops are held in person in the ChemEng Senior Common Room (228), ACEX building, Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus.
Three workshops were held in the Autumn 2024 and three will be run in the Spring 2025.
All workshops will be led and facilitated by our Director of Enterprise, Prof Sandro Macchietto.
