Publishing research findings is a key part of academia. Increasingly, so is patenting discoveries with commercial potential.
Academics and researchers may think they face a stark choice between these options:
- Publish in a journal or present at a conference as soon as possible – and therefore risk future commercialisation; or
- Delay publication in favour of attempting to commercialise their research – and therefore limit career development
But the reality is that blended or nuanced approaches are possible, enabling academics to benefit from both options.
This session, chaired byVenner Shipley, a leading European full-service IP firm, covers techniques to navigate between both approaches and develop an effective IP strategy that accounts for publication and commercailisation goals.
