Ed Hutchinson was introduced to influenza viruses by his graduate supervisor, Paul Digard (then at the University of Cambridge) and continued to work on them as a postdoc with Ervin Fodor (University of Oxford). In 2016 he received an MRC Career Development Award to set up a research group at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research.
