David Quéré: The physics of pearl drops

We plan to discuss the unusual physics (and mechanics) of pearl drops, that is, drops that hardly wet their substrate. Among other properties, we shall discuss a few effects related to temperature – how to maintain the drop sphericity and anti-adhesiveness when decreasing the temperature of the substrate, how to generate another kind of spheroidal state when increasing the temperature of the substrate.

The talk will be followed by reception in Huxley Common Room (5th Floor).
