Description

Ever felt like you would like to develop your own product to prototype for your project, or your startup, but didn’t know where to start? Also, if you feel like learning how to develop your own designs and bring them to reality, then this event is for you!

WOMENinSTEM@IC are proud to collaborate with the Imperial College Advanced Hackspace (ICAH), a unique and vibrant community of over 2000 like-minded makers, hackers, inventors and entrepreneurs across the University. Supported by an extensive suite of prototyping equipment and professional experts, ICAH has created a vibrant environment that makes it the best place in the world to turn idea into a reality. It is free to all college members.

We will be joined by Ryan White, the Head of ICAH and Ahreum Jung, an Invention Rooms Associate who will showcase both – the possiblilities the ICAH represents, and how the facilities can help bring your ideas to life.

Ryan is the Fixer at @biglifefix, Founder at rLab.org.uk, and Maker of all the things! He will talk about

  1. Maker Culture
  2. Rapid Prototyping
  3. Hackspaces and how they’ve developed to support maker culture and rapid prototyping
  4. ICAH and diversity within
  5. How to bring ideas to life in the Hackspace

Ahreum is a maker and designer, passionate about bridging the gap between design and science providing an inclusive space for all.

She has lent her interdisciplinary skills to various projects within the design and science fields acting as principal design engineer and researcher. She will talk about her experiences as the co-founder and CEO of her startup Gutface, a food tech based start-up focusing on the growth of homegrown probiotics, which has been recognised for awards and has won funding from the notable Design Council.

She was the Design lead for Wisp, a leading fem-tech company developing a range of IoT wearables focusing on sensory stimulation for women to enhance female sexual well-being. Her design work has been featured in exhibitions and publications like The Guardian, Dezeen, Wired, Yanko Design, Amman Design Week and London Design Week amongst others.
She graduated from the Innovation Design Engineering course, a dual masters programme from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College and will talk about her current position as The Invention Rooms Associate working as a designer for both the Hackspace and Makerspace. Additionally, she will talk about the differences between the two spaces and what they have to offer for the White City community and Imperial College London.

Soft drinks and nibbles will be provided.

We hope to see you there,

The WOMENinSTEM@IC committee.
