Synopsis: Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies can remove CO2, directly or indirectly, from the atmosphere and generate “negative emissions”.  Negative emissions are considered crucial to meeting the targets set-out in the Paris Agreement. My work focuses on integrating CDR technologies into the broader energy system to assess their potential for climate change mitigation. This talk will focus on the decarbonisation pathways possible for the UK electricity system if CDR technologies are available, presenting their techno-economic and socio-political implications.
