About this Challenge Team
Successfully responding to the challenge of climate change will require a wide range of actions from a diverse set of actors. Two key elements will be individuals making lifestyle changes, and mass pressure from the public on policymakers to take greater action. As such, it’s critical that the public are informed about climate change, care about climate change, and know how they can take action on climate change.
Climate Action Advocates is a challenge team formed of students from the Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet (SSCP) Doctoral Training Partnership at the Grantham Institute. We are interested in helping build a public movement around climate change, engaging with demographics beyond those who might conventionally be engaged with the issue of climate change.
Our vision statement is to: communicate about climate change to a new demographic in order to empower them to sustain climate action.
Working particularly with the scouts as our initial contact group, we aim to run creative workshops that help scouts engage with the issue of climate change and empower them to take action on climate change. We are also helping develop a structured ‘climate action advocate’ program that can help scouts take sustained action on climate change.
