Taking place from 10 to 16 February 2025, National Apprenticeships Week is a nationwide, week-long celebration of the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, employers and the wider economy. We are marking National Apprenticeships Week with a series of case studies of Imperial staff who have built new skills and knowledge by completing an apprenticeship. We are also running several events and activities: 

Monday 10 February 2025

Applications will open for our Technician Apprenticeship Scheme, a four-year programme for new entrants that trains technicians to work in our world-class workshops and laboratories, contributing to the research and teaching that we do.

Information Session: Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Scheme

11.00 – 12.00 (Internal, MS Teams)

This session will provide an overview of Imperial’s Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Scheme and is for Departments at the University who would like to find out more and get involved. This rotational programme currently runs across the Departments of Chemistry and Bioengineering and is allowing us to build a new pathway into science technician roles at Imperial.

Science & Engineering Research for Cultural Heritage Conference

09.30 – 17.30 (Open to all, South Kensington)

This year’s Science and Engineering Research for Cultural Heritage (SERCH) Conference will explore the work of Imperial technicians within cultural heritage and will feature talks by Simon Turner and Kat Harris, Senior Teaching Technicians in the Department of Chemistry. The event will also showcase new photography of Imperial’s technical apprentices.

Information Session: The Imperial and Corndel Executive Development Programme

10.00 – 11.00 (Internal, MS Teams)

This session will provide an overview of The Imperial and Corndel Executive Development Programme, a prestigious programme for experienced people managers at Imperial who wish to gain a formal qualification to support their leadership journey. Funded by the apprenticeship levy, it combines academic excellence with exceptional vocational training. Our next cohort launches in April 2025 and, due to funding changes, this is likely to be the last opportunity to undertake this programme.

Data Academy Taster session, Excelling in Excel

11.00 – 12.00 (Internal, MS Teams)

Led by a Data specialist from Corndel, our apprenticeships training partner, this one-hour virtual session will cover the top five Excel functions, data structure and manipulation, and pivot tables. It is open to Imperial staff at all levels who are considering undertaking one of our Data Academy Apprenticeships.

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS)

With effect from 21 May 2021, any individual who will be undertaking research activities, at PhD level or above, in one of the Academic Subjects/Fields of Research relevant to ATAS will be required to obtain a free of charge ATAS certificate before they can apply for a visa to work in the UK. This will include research, academic, engineering and technician staff applying for Skilled Worker visas. Some exemptions apply.
