As a PhD student, you will have access to our first-class facilities and benefit from strong support and involvement from industrial organizations. This close collaboration with industry ensures that our Department remains at the forefront of Materials Science and Engineering research.
A fully funded scholarship in the Department of Materials covers tuition fees for both home and, in some cases, overseas students, as well as providing stipends to support living expenses. These scholarships are designed to offer talented research students the opportunity to work in their chosen fields with the guidance and support of a dedicated supervisor.

What is a CDT?
EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training are cross-departmental, cross-faculty or cross-UK institution research centres sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
Each CDT offers four-year fully-funded PhD studentships in Materials, sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
While working on an exciting research project you will benefit from specific modules in your research subject, opportunities for professional development and cohort-building activities.
