GTA

On occasion, Research Assistants or Associates may agree to complete some additional teaching work to support the the undergraduate area relevant to their subject area. If this work takes place in addition to their normal workload / role it may be possible to pay the individual for this work.

It is important to note that all Research staff are required to complete some teaching and/or supervision as part of their contract of employment.

This is a College requirement and is written into the Job Descriptions of individual roles. It exists to ensure that all research staff have the opportunity to engage in teaching activity, a requirement for most modern Academic positions.

As a result of the contract requirement for some teaching, Research Associates additional teaching is not processed in the same way as PhD student Teaching Assistant (i.e. via Casual pay). The Department pays these one off payments for teaching completed above the normal remit. This activity has a flat rate, and there is no difference between lecturing, tutorials or exam marking.

The Department will ensure that the standard rate for Research Staff teaching activity is comparable to the College GTA lower rate.
