Co-organised by MDR's Dr Sherrianne Ng and Dr Carinna Hockham from The George Institute for Global Health, the SheBlooms: Supporting Female Health stand at the Great Exhibition Road Festival this year had hundreds of visits over the two-day event. 

The stand had three main themes focussing on the Vaginal Microbiome, Female Anatomy and Hormones Across Female Life Course. Each of the themes had numerous interactive activities to cater to all ages and genders.

The main activities for each theme included:
  • Vaginal Microbiome
    • Microbiome Memory Match (memory match cards microbiome-themed designs)
    • Microbiome Makers (use of slime, beans and glitter to share about the vaginal microbiome)
    • Microbiome Trivia (trivia questions on the vaginal microbiome)
  • Female Anatomy
    • 3D felt models to discuss the anatomy
    • Information leaflets for visitors to take home
  • Hormones Across Female Life Course
    • Make Your Own Hormones Sand Art - Sand art activity where visitors can follow instructions related to different phase of a woman's life course with sand colours related to different hormones. 
    • Mechanism of Hormones - Magnetic pieces with location of hormone production, hormone, target organs and functions for visitors to match the correct pieces and mechanisms. 
    • Hormone Levels Musical Representation of Hormones (5 music pieces created specially by our department's Prof Phil Bennett to represent hormone levels at different phases of a woman's life)
