Meet Dr Hailin Zhao

What course do you teach on and what is your role?

I teach on the Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care stream of the MRes Biomedical Research.

How has your career led you to teaching?

My career development toward teaching has been shaped by a combination of professional experiences and personal motivations. Initially, my career began in 
scientific research, where I developed essential skills such as laboratory techniques, data analysis, academic writing and presentation. My research career not only enhanced my communication skills but also promoted a profound interest in teaching.

What aspect of the course do you enjoy teaching the most?

I deliver the lectures and also supervise the projects. I really enjoy teaching aspects that promote student engagement, practical application of scientific knowledge, and development of practical skills. 

What do you hope your students will go on to achieve on completion of this course?

I hope my students will achieve several key outcomes including critical thinking, problem-solving capabilities and analytical skills, which are essential for their future careers.

What is your favourite part about teaching at Imperial College London?

My favourite part about teaching at Imperial College London is working with highly motivated students who have a strong passion for scientific research and providing them with first-hand experience in the latest developments.
