Individual ArcGIS licenses can be purchased through the department.  You will need to contact a member of DIDE IT to arrange the purchase.

ArcGIS Installation Procedure
NOTE: You MUST uninstall any existing Arc software before installing this version!

You can uninstall ArcGIS 9 via:

  • the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon in Control Panel (XP)
  • the 'Programs and Features' icon in Control Panel (Vista/7)

Laptop users: Make sure your computer is plugged into our network, and see the important note after the installation guide below.

Part One

  1. Browse to the location of the Desktop setup files, given to you by a member of DIDE IT, and double click on the esri.exe file.
  2. At the Welcome screen, click on Setup (to the right of "ArcGIS Desktop").
  3. At the Setup screen, click on Next.
  4. Click on "I accept the license agreement" and click on Next.
  5. 'Complete' should be selected, so click on Next.
  6. If you are happy with the installation location (usually C:\Program Files), click on Next.
  7. If you are happy with the installation location (usually C:\Python26), click on Next.
  8. At the Ready screen, Click on Next.
  9. Once completed, click on Finish.
  10. When asked to 'Select a Product', choose ArcInfo (Concurrent Use).
  11. On the same screen, select 'Define a License Manager Now' and type in fi--didex1 and click on Ok.
  12. At the summary screen, click on Ok.
  13. Go back to the Welcome screen, which should still be open, and click on the cross in the top right corner to close it.

Part Two

  1. Browse to the location of the Workstation setup files, given to you by a member of DIDE IT, and double click on the setup.exe file.
  2. At the Welcome screen, click on Next.
  3. Click on "I accept the license agreement" and click on Next.
  4. Select 'Complete' and click on Next.
  5. If you are happy with the installation location (usually C:\arcgis), click on Next.
  6. If you are happy with the installation location (usually C:\WorkSpace), click on Next.
  7. At the Ready screen, Click on Next.
  8. Once completed, click on Finish.
  9. When asked to 'Select a License Manager', type in fi--didex1 and click on Ok.

Important note for laptop users

If you install ArcGIS 10 onto your College laptop, you must do the following so that you can use the software whilst it's not plugged in to our network:

  1. Click on Start, All Programs, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Administrator.
  2. Click on Borrow/Return, put a tick in the box next to 'ArcInfo Desktop' '3D Analyst', and click on Ok.

ArcView 3.2

ArcView 3.2 is no longer supported. ArcMap, which is part of ArcGIS 10, should be used instead.
