PhD Candidate

I joined the iCARE team in 2023 as a PhD candidate having completed an MSc in Health Policy at Imperial College London in 2021.  My research interests lie in using routinely collected data in a meaningful way to measure performance and support real-world improvement initiatives within the NHS. For my MSc thesis, I used publicly available NHS performance metrics to analyse the impact of acute hospital mergers on the quality of care, for which I was awarded an oral presentation at the annual Institute for Research and Information in Health Economics (IRDES) Applied Health Economics and Policy Evaluation workshop in Paris.

For my PhD project, I am developing a clinical decision support (CDS) tool for enabling diabetes virtual ward rounds, the remote specialist management of people with diabetes who may be at risk of harm.  The CDS will utilise routinely collected electronic health record data to identify people with diabetes upon arrival in hospital so they can be triaged as soon as possible by diabetes specialists.

I am also an experienced NHS programme manager.  I have worked nationally within NHS England providing assurance on numerous major hospital merger programmes and supporting emergency incident planning during the COVID-19 pandemic.  I have also worked regionally at Cambridge University Hospitals NHSFT to help set up the East of England Specialised Services Provider Collaborative and develop a regional neurosciences transformation strategy.
