What we do

The Biodynamics Lab within Imperial College’s MSk Lab is a pioneering hub of innovation and expertise, specialising in biomechanics, gait analysis, and cutting-edge technology. Our mission is to transform the understanding of human movement by offering tailored solutions that enhance performance, optimise rehabilitation, and improve overall movement patterns. With state-of-the-art equipment, including 3D motion capture systems, wireless EMG technology, and force platforms, we delve deep into the complexities of human locomotion. We collaborate closely with a diverse range of partners, including medical professionals, researchers, rehabilitation specialists, and industry experts. Our research extends to conducting orthopaedic clinical trials, where we work hand-in-hand with medical professionals to rigorously evaluate the efficacy and outcomes of orthopaedic procedures, with a particular focus on arthroplasty and joint replacements.

Why it is important

The Biodynamics Lab's work benefits patients by working on early diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions, such as knee osteoarthritis, facilitating faster recovery and improved quality of life. Through orthopedic clinical trials, we contribute to enhanced surgical outcomes and joint health, reducing post-operative complications.

How it can benefit patients

Our ergonomic assessments prevent workplace-related injuries, promoting patient well-being. Athletes benefit from optimised training routines, which reduce sports-related injuries and improve performance. Patients with joint hypermobility syndrome receive evidence-based exercise programmes for improved joint stability and pain reduction. Our wearable technology enables long-term joint health monitoring, early intervention, and better condition management, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes, reduced pain, enhanced mobility, and an overall better quality of life.
