Dr Akudjedu is an Associate Professor in Clinical Imaging at the Institute of Medical Imaging & Visualisation, Bournemouth University. He is also an editor of Radiography - the International Journal of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Therapy which is owned by the Society and College of Radiographers (UK). He is a member of several funding scheme selection panels, including the NIHR Doctoral Clinical & Practitioner Fellowship Scheme Selection Committee and the RfPB Under-represented Disciplines & specialisms: Allied Health Funding Committee among others.

He obtained an Advanced Certificate in Information Technology (National Institute of Information Technology, Ghana), BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography (University of Ghana), MSc in Neuroimaging (King’s College London) and PhD in Medicine with a focus on clinical neuroimaging in first episode of psychosis from the University of Galway (The Republic of Ireland). He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AdvanceHE). 

His research relates to Radiography education and practice and medical imaging with a specific focus on clinical neuroimaging using MRI and other related imaging modalities. Dr Theo Akudjedu's recent research interests relate to emerging issues in medical imaging including sustainability considerations, EDI, non-clinical skills, and evidence-based practice. His research outputs are well cited, have had direct clinical and industry impacts and have also informed education and training policy. These are recognised internationally through numerous awards including the 2024 Investigator Award of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies.
